In einem ländlichen Dorf wird Soroku plötzlich von einer bizarren Krankheit befallen, die seine Haut eitern lässt und seinen Körper deformiert. Schon bald erfahren die anderen Dorfbewohner davon und Soroku wird geächtet und seine Schwester Haruko bösartig angegriffen. Widerwillig beschließen die Eltern der Geschwister, Sorokus Elend selbst ein Ende zu setzen. Haruko jedoch will ihren Bruder retten und plant mit ihm gemeinsam die Flucht.
