K-Pop: Extreme Survival (2012)

At her parents’ request, tomboyish Ji Seung-Yeon was supposed to study music in London but failed the entrance exam due to her unconventional performance. So she heads back to South Korea and meets Woo-Hyun, the band leader of the popular music group M2, on the plane. Although Woo-Hyun is very popular with female fans, he is notorious among his band colleagues for his hot-tempered and authoritarian behaviour. The flight ends badly for both of them, as Seung-Yeon throws up on Woo-Hyun while going to the toilet. After landing, Seung-Yeon stays with her best friend, Kwon Ji-Woo, and his grandmother. Meanwhile, the latter is preparing for his audition at Sunny Entertainment, which is looking for successors to the ageing members of M2. An internal rule states that the members must not be older than 23.

Ji-Woo’s nervousness causes him to fail his audition. The four new members of the next generation are quickly found. However, recordings of the performances go viral and enrage the fans, who believe that M2 belongs to them. Sunny Entertainment, therefore, finds a compromise to satisfy everyone. A second audition is to take place, with the fans deciding the finalists this time. Once again, four participants are to remain, competing with the winners from the first audition so that, in the end, a team of four will form the next generation. Ji-Woo takes his second chance, and Seung-Yeon also wants to try it. But nobody can find out that Seung-Yeon is a girl because M2 is an all-boy band!

Die burschikose Ji Seung-Yeon sollte auf Wunsch ihrer Eltern eigentlich in London Musik studieren, ist bei der Aufnahmeprüfung aufgrund ihres eigenwilligen Auftritts jedoch durchgefallen. So macht sie sich zurück nach Südkorea auf und trifft im Flugzeug auf Woo-Hyun, den Bandleader der populären Musikgruppe M2. Dieser ist zwar bei den weiblichen Fans sehr beliebt, bei seinen Bandkollegen jedoch für seine aufbrausende und autoritäre Art berüchtigt. Für beide endet der Flug etwas unschön, denn beim Gang auf die Toilette übergibt Seung-Yeon sich auf Woo-Hyun. Nach der Landung kommt Seung-Yeon bei ihrem besten Freund Kwon Ji-Woo und dessen Großmutter unter. Dieser bereitet sich derweil auf seine Audition bei Sunny Entertainment vor, das nach den Nachfolgern für die älter gewordenen Mitglieder von M2 sucht. Eine interne Regel besagt, dass die Mitglieder nicht älter als 23 Jahre sein dürfen.

Aufgrund seiner Nervosität scheitert Ji-Woo beim Vorsingen. Die vier neuen Mitglieder der nächsten Generation sind schnell gefunden. Doch Aufnahmen von den Auftritten verbreiten sich im Internet und erzürnen die Fans, weil diese der Meinung sind, dass M2 ihnen gehöre. Deswegen findet Sunny Entertainment einen Kompromiss, der alle zufriedenstellen soll. Eine zweite Audition soll stattfinden, nur dieses Mal sind es die Fans, die über die Finalisten entscheiden dürfen. Abermals sollen vier Teilnehmer übrig bleiben, und diese sollen mit den Siegern aus der ersten Audition konkurrieren, sodass am Ende ein Viererteam die nächste Generation bilden soll. Ji-Woo nutzt seine zweite Chance, und auch Seung-Yeon möchte einen Versuch wagen. Doch niemand darf erfahren, dass Seung-Yeon ein Mädchen ist, denn M2 ist eine reine Boyband!
