In diesem bildgewaltigen Remake des Kurosawa Klassikers von 1958 fliehen nach dem Mord an der Königsfamilie, zwei ranghohe Mitglieder des Akizuri-Clans mit ihren letzten Verbündeten in die Berge. Prinzessin Yuri und General Makabe Rokurota Die Prinzessin gibt sich als stummer Bruder des Generals aus. Eines Tages treffen der flüchtige Bergarbeiter Takezo und sein Kumpel Shinhachi in der Gegend ein. Die beiden helfen dem General und der Prinzessin, das mitgeführte Gold durch Feindesland zu schmuggeln. Während sich die Schlinge um die Gruppe immer enger zieht, muss Makabe Rokurota immer neue Pläne aushecken, um unerkannt zu bleiben …
