Mitsuru Hinomiya ist ein in sich gekehrter Schüler, der nie mit seinen Klassenkameraden spricht. Seine Eltern leben weit entfernt und haben kaum Kontakt zu ihrem in Matsuroba Town wohnenden Sohn. Neben seinen Eltern besteht seine Familie aus einem älteren Bruder, welcher jedoch seit Jahren vermisst wird. Sein soziales Umfeld ist überschaubar, und er möchte keine unnötige Aufmerksamkeit auf sich ziehen. Das fällt ihm nicht immer einfach, denn er besitzt übernatürliche Kräfte. Er ist nämlich ein Bokke namens Nekogami, der Katzengott.
