At 17, Ash Lynx is one of the youngest gang leaders. And, despite being so young, he is respected and feared by many. Not only is he an excellent fighter and shooter, but he is also extremely intelligent and has an IQ of 210.

With his brother Griffin, Ash grew up in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. His mother ran away when he was a toddler and left him with his father, who was unable to take care of his sons. When Ash was six, Griffin was sent to Iraq by the army. A year later, Ash was sexually abused by his trainer. But when his father tried to report it to the police, the rapist was pronounced innocent. As a result, his father told him to at least get paid next time. After being raped several more times, Ash, at the age of 8, stole his father’s pistol and shot his coach dead. Bones of children were found in his basement, and Ash was found innocent but still became the talk of the town. His father decided to send him to live with his aunt, but Ash ran away from home before this could happen.

Later, he was caught by human traffickers and taken to Dino Golzine’s Club Cod. A club disguised as a restaurant selling sex with children. There, he learns to use his charm and attracts Golzine’s attention. Eventually, he is adopted as Golzine’s private “slave”, where he learns all sorts of things, including shooting and murdering. At 15, he is sent to juvie, where he is to meet his future friend Shorter Wong. Then on, it only took two years until he became one of the most feared gang leaders in all of Manhattan at the age of just 17.

Because of the many cruel things Ash experiences, he seems cold, although he only tries not to let it get to him because otherwise, he would perish. Furthermore, he wants to be an idol for his friends and gang members and show strength to keep them motivated. However, Ash is not truly emotionless: he often has nightmares about his awful past and even reflects on himself, thinking he is a cold-blooded monster and killer. All this burdens him, even though he doesn’t want to admit it.

Nevertheless, Ash is a killer because, when he has to, he kills without hesitation or mercy and never misses his aim. While fighting, he doesn’t care whether he himself gets hurt, as long as his friends are alright. Because behind his hard shell hides a soft core that hardly anyone gets to see: his friends, especially Eiji, are very dear to him. His own life doesn’t matter to him, but he would never forgive someone who hurts his friends. This sentiment is his only weak point, making him vulnerable to others. Because he doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone and cannot trust other people, he hardly opens up to anyone.

Ash ist zusammen mit seinem Bruder Griffin in Cape Cod, Massachusetts aufgewachsen. Seine Mutter ist, als er noch ein Kleinkind war, abgehauen und hat ihn bei seinem Vater zurückgelassen, der sich aber nicht um seine Söhne kümmern konnte. Als Ash sechs Jahre alt war, wurde Griffin von der Armee aus nach Irak geschickt. Ein Jahr später wird er von seinem Trainer sexuell missbraucht. Doch als sein Vater versuchte, dies bei der Polizei zu melden, wurde der Vergewaltiger als unschuldig gesprochen. Daraufhin sagte sein Vater zu ihm, er solle sich doch nächstes Mal wenigstens bezahlen lassen. Nachdem der Trainer Ash noch weitere Male vergewaltigt, stahl er die Pistole seines Vaters und erschoss im Alter von 8 Jahren seinen Trainer. Man fand Knochen von Kindern in dessen Keller und Ash wurde nicht als schuldig gesprochen, wurde aber trotzdem zum Gespräch der Stadt. Sein Vater entschied sich dazu, ihn zu seiner Tante zu schicken, aber Ash lief, bevor dies geschehen konnte, von zuhause fort.

Später wurde er von Menschenhändlern geschnappt und in Dino Golzines Club Cod gebracht. Ein Club, der als Restaurant versteckt, Sex mit Kindern verkauft. Dort lernt er seinen Charme einzusetzen, was auch Golzine auf ihn aufmerksam macht. Schließlich wird er als Golzines privater Sklave adoptiert, wo er alles Mögliche lernt. Unter anderem auch das Schießen und Morden. Mit fünfzehn wird er in den Jugendknast gesteckt, wo er auch seinen späteren Freund Shorter Wong kennenlernt. Von da an dauerte es nur mehr zwei Jahre, bis er mit 17 einer der gefürchtetsten Gangleadern in ganz Manhattan wird.

Aufgrund der vielen schlimmen Dinge, die Ash erlebt hat, wirkt er nach außen sehr kalt, dabei versucht er nur, die Dinge nicht zu sehr an sich heranzulassen, da er sonst zugrunde gehen würde. Auch will er damit seinen Freunden und Gangmitgliedern ein Vorbild sein und Stärke zeigen, um sie weiterhin zu motivieren. Jedoch ist Ash in Wahrheit nicht gefühllos: Er hat oft Albträume aufgrund der erlebten Dinge und reflektiert sich zudem selbst, indem er von sich sagt, dass er ein gefühlloses Monster und ein Killer sei, was ihn in Wahrheit jedoch belastet.

Allerdings stimmt es, dass Ash ein Killer ist, da er, wenn es sein muss, ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken und ohne Gnade tötet und sein Ziel hierbei nie verfehlt. Hierbei ist es ihm nicht wichtig, ob er unversehrt bleibt oder nicht, solange seinen Freunden nichts passiert. Denn hinter seiner harten Schale versteck Ash einen weichen Kern, den jedoch kaum jemand zu sehen bekommt. Seine Freunde und besonders Eiji sind ihm sehr wichtig. Ihm ist egal, was mit ihm selbst passiert, jedoch würde er niemandem verzeihen, der seinen Freunden weh tut. Diese Sentimentalität ist sein einziger Schwachpunkt, wodurch er angreifbar wird. Weil er niemandem zur Last fallen will und anderen Menschen nur schwer vertrauen kann, lässt er nur sehr wenige Menschen an sich heran.
